When I bought crochet laces in my local craft shop, I knew I was going to make some birthday cards.
There is something elegant and chic about crochet lace.
I love the boho aesthetic in home decor, such as macrame, so why wouldn’t I turn a blank kraft greeting card into a boho aesthetic one?
Some people might say it looks grannys and outdated, but with a bit of imagination, it can turn into something you could give to your friend for their birthday.
I’ve come up with 4 easy ideas for birthday cards DIY, so you can follow easy tutorials and make them at home.
I’ll walk you through every card design. Choose your favourite and try it when you need a birthday card.

1. DIY Boho Handmade Birthday Card Ideas With Crochet Lace

The DIY Boho Handmade Birthday Card is my favourite.
You turn a simple kraft card into a boho present for your loved one.
The crochet lace fills the entire card, and a little lace and a bow add an extra dimension.
How To Make It?
To create this boho handmade birthday card, cut the crochet lace into four strips of the same crochet lace, then glue them next to each other on a kraft blank card. Then, attach two pieces of kraft lace, crossing them closer to the left side of the card. To seal everything up, make a small bow using the same kraft lace and glue it in the place where the kraft laces are crossing.

2. Aesthetic Ribbon Birthday Card Ideas DIY Easy Tutorial

This elegant and simple Aesthetic Ribbon Birthday Card is a great choice.
It’s really important to glue both crochet lace and kraft ribbon neatly and cut the excess at the end of the card.
Moreover, you can make a smaller bow in the middle. I wanted it to be a central part of this card.
How To Make It?
To hand-make this aesthetic ribbon birthday card, you need 2 pieces of crochet lace and 2 pieces of kraft ribbon. Glue the crochet lace vertically first, and on top of that goes the kraft ribbon. Next, glue the crochet lace horizontally so that they cross in the middle, and on top of it, attach kraft ribbon. Cut the excess at the ends, if present. Make a bow in the center of a card using 2 pieces of the same kraft ribbon you used previously.

3. DIY Birthday Cake Card Ideas For Birthdays and Weddings

This DIY Birthday Cake Card is a perfect choice not only for birthdays but also for weddings.
White cake and pearls scream wedding to me. What do you think?
I chose to stick some pearls, so the card design isn’t flat.
You can add different stickers or anything you’d like!
How To Make It?
Cut one piece of wider lace for the foundation of a birthday cake. Then, cut 2 pieces of narrower lace, one longer and one shorter. Glue the crochet lace in the shape of a cake in the middle of a car, leaving some space for a candle on top. Add pearls or stickers to decorate a birthday cake. Cut a small piece of gold paper starw, and stick it above the cake so it resembles a candle.

4. Bunting Happy Birthday DIY Card With Vintage Boho Chic

This Bunting Happy Birthday DIY Card is dainty and classic.
When you attach your bunting on both sides and leave it loose in the middle, it gains the same effect as the bunting swinging between 2 walls.
This design depends on the crochet lace you have, because you thread a jute twine between the patterns.
However, most crochet laces will be suitable for these birthday cards DIY projects.
How To Make It?
To create this bunting happy birthday DIY card, cut 3 identical triangles from your wide crochet lace. Thread a piece of jute twine through a pater. You should end up with a small bunting. Stick 2 ends of the crochet bunting to the blank kraft card using washi tape. For an extra touch, use a Happy Birthday stamp in the middle.

Keep it grounded: Use kraft or brown cardstock as your base for a warm, boho foundation.
Textural play: Lace, ribbon, or fabric scraps do wonders—try arranging them in stripes or crosses.
Focal point matter: Highlight the card’s center with a small bow, flower, or die-cut.
Less is more: Embrace minimal embellishments—one small decorative element can carry the whole design.
