8 Easy and Sweet Homemade Valentine’s Day Cards
Now that you’ve got your supplies ready, it’s time for the fun part – making the cards!
I’ve put together 8 of my favorite homemade Valentine’s Day card ideas that are as easy as they are adorable.
Each one comes with a simple, step-by-step tutorial, so even if you’re not super crafty, you’ll have no trouble following along.
These designs are great for all ages, whether you’re crafting with younger kids for classroom valentines, making something sweet for a partner, or creating a small gift for a friend.
From sweet designs like Heart Lollipops and Valentine Wreath, to playful ideas like a Valentine’s Tic Tac Toe or Moving Hearts on a String, there’s something here for everyone.
No matter which one you try, each handmade card is sure to bring a smile, and that’s really what Valentine’s Day is all about.
1. Heart Lollipops Card

These sweet little Heart Lollipops look adorable, don’t they?
I used three hearts in different shades of pink to create a soft, layered look that feels playful and romantic.
This design works beautifully as a classroom Valentine or a small gift card.
It’s also a great choice if you want something eye-catching without using many supplies.
How To Make It?

- Using a 1.5-inch heart punch, cut 3 hearts from cardstock paper. I used 3 different shades of pink paper, but you can do 3 of the same color if you want.
- Fold each one in half and apply glue to the edge so that, when you attach it to the paper, it stands out slightly.
- Affix 3 hearts to the greeting card, side by side, as shown in the picture.
- Then, using markers, draw the bottom part of the lollipops: a little triangle and a stick. I used 3 pink markers that perfectly matched the color of my paper hearts, and a grey marker for the sticks.
- Your Valentine’s Day card is now ready!
2. Valentine’s Day Tic Tac Toe Card

This one’s a fun little card with a nostalgic twist, Tic Tac Toe with a Valentine’s Day theme.
I placed three hearts across for a winning combo and added a “just to say” stamp for a friendly, thoughtful touch.
Kids especially love this idea because it feels like a game and a card in one.
You can even personalize it by switching out the stamp or adding a short handwritten message.
How To Make It?

- Use a black marker to draw 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines to create a classic Tic Tac Toe board.
- Using a 0.5-inch heart and a round shape punch, cut 3 hearts and 3 circles. You can fill the entire board with shapes; it’s up to you. I wanted it to look simple.
- Glue shapes where you desire. I made my card the way that hearts win.
- Lastly, add a handwritten note or use a Valentine stamp and ink to add a personal touch.
3. Valentine’s Wreath Card

If you’re looking for some Valentine wreath ideas, you’re in the right place.
This design is soft and sweet, with hearts arranged in a wreath shape.
Inside the wreath, I wrote I love you with a black gel pen, but you can personalize it however you like.
It’s a lovely option for someone special, like a partner, boyfriend, or close family member.
The wreath shape also makes this card feel slightly more elegant while remaining easy to make.
How To Make It?

- Use a round shape to draw a circle. I just used a tape that was lying nearby.
- Cut 1.5-inch hearts from pink and red cardstock paper
- Start attaching the paper hearts to the blank greeting card, and play around with it; the circle should help you stay in line and maintain the overall round design.
- For a final touch, write your sweet message inside the Valentine wreath or underneath. Make it personal and sweet.
4. Heart-Shaped Balloons Card

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like heart-shaped balloons floating across a card.
I drew the balloon strings with a marker and wrapped them with a little paper bow for a finishing touch.
This design is cheerful and suitable for friends, kids, or classmates.
You can easily add the message with stamps or handwriting to fit any Valentine’s Day style, or leave it with just balloons.
How To Make It?

- Punch some 1.5-inch hearts from your chosen paper. For this design, I chose a single shade of pink, but you can use different colors if you prefer.
- Next, lay your hearts on a greeting card, and try to find a way to style them as a bunch of balloons floating in the air.
- Stick them onto the paper using PVA glue.
- Make a little bow from a paper ribbon. I stick with a pink theme this time.
- Draw lines – balloon strings and attach the bow in the place where the strings meet.
- You can add an extra touch by writing Happy Valentine’s Day or your personal message.
5. Hearts and Bows Card

This is one of my favorite designs for younger kids or quick crafting sessions.
I glued five colorful hearts onto the card and filled the blank spaces with hand-drawn bows and tiny dots.
It’s forgiving and doesn’t need to be perfect, which makes it great for little hands.
Every card turns out unique, even when using the same basic idea.
How To Make It?

- Punch some 1.5-inch paper hearts.
- Try to arrange them on the greeting card in a nice, flowy composition.
- Glue them to the card.
- At the end, take a pink marker and draw bows, dots, and other doodles between the hearts. You can fully express yourself in this one, or let your kids come up with their ideas. Have fun! 🙂
6. Moving Hearts on a String Card

If you want something interactive and meaningful, this Moving Hearts on a String card is a great option.
I used a hole punch to string together red hearts on red-and-white twine, then attached the strand across the front of the card.
The movement adds a fun surprise when the card is picked up or opened.
It’s also a beautiful way to turn a simple handmade card into a very thoughtful gift by using as many hearts as you and your boyfriend or girlfriend are together. Isn’t that sweet? 🙂
How To Make It?

- This card required more effort, but bear with me. Punch several 1.5-inch paper hearts.
- Using a hole punch, make a hole on the left side of each heart.
- Thread the hearts onto red-and-white string, ribbon, or jute twine. Whatever you have at home.
- Attach the moving hearts to the greeting card using a small amount of PVA glue at the ends of the string.
- Finish it off with a Valentine stamp or handwritten message.
7. Big Heart Filled with Small Hearts Card

This one is all about layering love and having fun.
I traced a large heart from an old template and filled it in with paper hearts in every shade of red and pink I had.
It’s a relaxing design to make and perfect for using up scrap paper.
The finished card looks full and rich, even though it’s made with very basic materials.
How To Make It?

- For this card, I’m using a heart template from last year. If you don’t have any heart templates, I recommend downloading free freintable heart templates.
- Trace around the heart on a greeting card using a pencil.
- Now, punch multi-colored 1.5-inch paper hearts.
- Start layering small hearts inside the shape and attaching them using PVA glue. I start in the middle and move to the right, then to the left, and then down. Make sure you slightly cover the lines.
- Your card should look colorful and playful.
8. 3D Heart Card

This simple yet striking design uses cherry-patterned scrapbook paper to add a bit of flair to your card.
I layered a large pink heart over the scrapbook design to create a 3D heart effect, then finished it with a small bow.
It’s a great option if you want something slightly more polished without extra effort.
The layered heart really stands out, making this card feel special and intentional.
How To Make It?

- This design might look complicated, but it’s not.
- Using the same heart template as previously, cut out 3 hearts: 2 with cherries or scrapbook paper of your choice and 1 red.
- fold them in half.
- Now, take a red heart and apply glue on the left side and attach the cherry heart, and do the same on the right side – apply glue and attach the other cherry heart.
- Then, stick the 3D design to your blank greeting card.
- Add a little red bow for an extra touch.
