Jute Canvas Art – Romantic DIY Gift For Boyfriend
This post shows you how to make jute canvas art and give it as a romantic DIY gift for your boyfriend.

I recently found a dented canvas in one of my art boxes.
My first thought was that I should get rid of it, because I can’t paint on it when it’s damaged.
However, I came across different jute canvas art ideas on Pinterest.
I was inspired to make this canvas art after checking the ideas from Pouring Flowers.
Then I could cover the canvas completely using jute twine, so the dented part won’t be seen.
This idea turned out to be a perfect romantic DIY gift for boyfriend.
This jute canvas art with all your photos, notes, and postcards will be a perfect DIY gift for a birthday, anniversary, or even your friend’s wedding.
It depends on what you want to attach to it and how you want to give it to.
In this case, we are making a romantic DIY gift for boyfriend.
I will show you an easy step-by-step tutorial on how to make the jute canvas art, and you will add your personal touch while decorating it!
Let’s get started.

Here is a list of craft supplies necessary to make the jute canvas art:
- Blank Canvas 12×16 inch (30×40 cm)
- Jute Twine 3mm

How To Make Jute Canvas Art? Easy Tutorial

In the article I mentioned at the beginning, there isn’t a tutorial on how to make this type of canvas art.
So, I decided to create my own step-by-step tutorial.
I hope this tutorial is easy for you to follow, and your creation will be amazing!
Let’s get started!
1. Tie A Knot At The End

We start by tying jute twine at the back of the canvas.
It’s very important to make a really tight knot so it doesn’t slip.
You can leave excess twine sticking out.
We will trim that at the end.
2. Apply Glue And Slowly Start Wrapping Your Canvas

As you can see in the pictures, I apply glue to the back, side, and a little bit to the front of the canvas. I do it bit by bit.
At the same time, I hold my jute twine, stretch it, and then tightly wrap my canvas.
Moreover, every twine bit should be right under the other. Don’t leave blank spaces between them.
3. What To Do When You Run Out Of Twine

First of all, don’t panic. 🙂
It happened to me. I ran out of jute twine halfway through.
To solve this problem, tie the end of your previous twine with a new one.
Then, continue stretching and wrapping your canvas with jute twine.
4. Tie A Knot Again And Cut The Excess Of Jute Twine.

When you’re done with gluing and wrapping, tie another tight knot at the back of the canvas.
Then, cut the excess jute twine at both ends and in the middle, if you combined 2 jute twines.
PVA glue might still be wet, so let it dry for about 15-20 minutes.
5. Glue Jute Twine At The Top And Bottom

I recommend not leaving the top and bottom parts of a canvas empty.
It looks much better when the whole canvas is covered in jute twine.
To do so, cut at least 7 12-inch-long pieces of jute twine.
Apply glue to the whole space and attach jute twine one piece next to another.
Your fingers might be covered in glue, as it’s necessary to hold twine in place for a few seconds until it sticks to the canvas.
Again, try not to leave blank spaces between jute twine.
Your canvas should look like this.

Let it dry for 15 more minutes.

Add A Personal Touch – Let’s Decorate

Your DIY gift is now finished and ready to be decorated with all the paper trinkets you’ve selected.
Use mini wooden clothespins to attach paper bits to jute strings.
