Macrame Dream Catcher DIY for a Lovely Housewarming Gift
This post shows you how to make a macrame dream catcher DIY for a unique housewarming gift.

When my best friend invited me to her housewarming party, I knew I wanted to make something special for her new home.
At this point, I had no idea what her new apartment looked like, but I knew I could use macrame for this project and focus on bedroom decor.
In this article, I will walk you through the process of making this boho handmade macrame dream catcher to inspire you to create your own.
Helpful Tips For Housewarming Gift Ideas
When it comes to housewarming gift ideas, you can be overwhelmed because there are different rooms in the house you can consider: the kitchen, the living room, and the bathroom, and each one can be decorated in a slightly different style.
So, what to focus on?
Definitely, when choosing a housewarming gift, focus on one area of the house and think about what they might need for home decor or functional household appliances.
You might also want to look for gift basket ideas. Collect a few smaller gifts that match the aesthetic of the house or are helpful for the recipient.
In this case, you can also focus on one room, for example, the kitchen, collect a couple of kitchen tools, fun gadgets, kitchen gloves, and towels, and combine them with a basket they can use for storage.

Easy Tutorial
To craft a round part of a macrame dream catcher, I followed this YouTube tutorial.
Firstly, I decided to use wooden rings instead of metal ones.
Note: In the tutorial, they use a 4 cm (1.57 in) metal ring, but because wooden rings are thicker, I used a 4,5 cm (1.77 in) ring, which was perfect. I also cut 20 cm longer pieces of macrame, to add a little bit for thicker rings.

I followed the exact steps from the beginning of the tutorial until 5:50, when I added a wooden bead and then made a knot.
This time, I used wooden beads with large holes to make it easier to thread 2 cords of macrame through a bead.
Next, I started attaching the macrame cords to the large wooden ring. Follow the tutorial from 7:30.

As you can see, I’ve done the top part of the wooden ring and then left the rest to finish the bottom part.
I recommend leaving this part to the very end, as you need to cut and glue the macrame cord.
So, we have our round bit filled, now it’s time for decorating with long hanging bits.
This is the best part to do, because it’s where you can use your creativity and add whatever you’ve planned.

Firstly, I made 3 twisted macrame hangings following the instructions in the video from 11:44.
Next, I made 2 pieces with 9 wooden beads each and a tassel at the end.
To do that, I followed a tutorial from this video, starting from 20:52. Click here.

After that, I made 2 simple braids using 3 cords of macrame.

I had leftover crochet lace that I was using to make 4 Easy And Cute Birthday Cards DIY With Boho Aesthetic.

I cut 2 pieces of crochet lace and attached them to the wooden ring.
Ultimately, I added more macrame cords to the wooden ring to completely cover it.
I untwisted a couple of them, added small wooden beads with knots.
Or you can leave them without anything for a clean aesthetic.
To finish it off, I trimmed the hanging macrame cords to the desired length, completed the top part, and added a hanging loop.
Conclusion
When I gave this housewarming gift to my best friend, she was over the moon and asked, “Did you make it?”
It wasn’t the first handmade present I had given her, but she was still surprised. 🙂
I love making people happy, and giving handmade gifts is a great opportunity to do so.
Anyway, I hope this article is helpful and you can see the process of making a macrame dream catcher DIY from my perspective.
The most important thing is to have fun and experiment!
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes and changes while decorating.
You can also cut another piece of macrame and attach it to the wooden ring to create a different effect.
