This post gives you a step-by-step tutorial on how to make tissue paper pumpkins, easy Halloween DIY crafts.

Halloween is a very special time of year, enjoyed by many people.

There is a lot to do around Halloween, including pumpkin picking, trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, wearing spooky costumes, and Halloween DIY crafts – my favorite.

This year, I came up with an idea to make 3D tissue paper pumpkins.

I like creating with tissue paper, it’s a very soft and flexible material that you can shape easily.

However, it can tear easily if you aren’t careful with it.

I will show you the easiest way to make tissue paper pumpkins without breaking paper, so your Halloween decor is spot on this year!

Craft Supplies

Here is a list of craft supplies you’ll need to make handmade tissue paper pumpkins:

1. Orange tissue paper 20×30 inch and one other color for fillers 20×30 inch (optional)
2. Brown paper ribbon
3. PVA Glue + Wooden Craft Stick (optional)
4. Clear Elastic Bands
5. Scissors

Let’s begin with preparation.

For this tutorial, I used 2 different colors of tissue paper, so you can see in the pictures how to add fillers inside the pumpkin. You can use the same color, or if you decide on 2 colors, I suggest fillers to be in a soft light color. Some tissue papers are thin and might be see-through. Also, that’s why we use 2 sheets for orange tissue paper for the outside layer.

Preparation:

Medium Pumpkin

• 2 x 19×19 inch orange tissue paper
• 6x 20×30 inch tissue paper for fillers (can be other light color than orange)
• 30-inch brown paper ribbon
• 2 clear elastic bands

Small Pumpkin

• 2 x 14×14 inch orange tissue paper
• 6x 10×15 inch tissue paper for fillers (can be other light color than orange)
• 28-inch brown paper ribbon
• 2 clear elastic bands

Time: 45-60 min

IMPORTANT NOTE: Tissue paper can easily fade in the sunlight, so please avoid sun exposure.

1. Cut Tissue Paper And Mark The Center

Cut 2 square pieces of orange tissue paper. Approximately 19×19 inches.

The width of your tissue paper should be around 20 inches (19.68 in), allowing it to be 19.68 inches by 19 inches.

Next, lay two pieces of orange tissue paper together, one on top of the other.

Find the center, hold 1 cm of paper, and tie it together using a clear elastic band.

It will help you insert fillers later correctly, and additionally, the bottom of the pumokin will be more appealing.

2. Make 6 Fillers

Take a 20×30-inch piece of tissue paper and fold it 3 times. It should look like the top picture.

Then, fold it into a “bean-shape” or, in other words, “moon-shape” by folding the paper toward the inside of a bean.

The most important thing is to have this round part at least 1,5 inches wide, so the 3D pumpkin has a shape.

As you can see, every filler will be slightly different, but it’s okay. They should be similar, not the same. So, don’t worry if yours are different.

3. Place The Fillers Inside

Find the center of your orange tissue paper. Remember doing the tiny knot in the middle?

Place the first filler inside, so the rounded part faces outside and the squeezed part faces inside.

Take a look at the above picture for reference.

Now, hold the filler and orange tissue paper together with one hand from the outside, ike above.

Add 2 more fillers next to each other, trying to hold them together.

I know it might be tricky, but you can do it!

Place 3 more fillers inside the pukin, so they all face each other, and we have a flower-like shape inside.

At the end of this step, grab all the fillers together in a pouch.

4. Shape It

It’s time to give it a slight shape.

While still holding it with your left hand, try to give your pumpkin a slight shape by delicately squishing tissue paper where you can feel the fillers inside.

It’s all coming together, I promise! 🙂

5. Twist And Secure The End

Twist gently the leftover tissue paper into a little cone.

Secure it by tying it up with a clear elastic band.

6. Make a Stem

Tuck the brown paper ribbon under the clear elastic band.

Remember to tuck it the same way you twisted the end of tissue paper, so the stem is smooth and looks nice.

Apply PVA glue to the whole stem part of a pumpkin.

Now, twist the brown ribbon around the stem. Try not to leave any spaces in between, so the orange tissue paper is fully covered.

When you come to the end of the stem, apply a little bit more glue to stick the end, and cut the rest of the brown paper ribbon.

7. Finishing Touches

It’s time for the finishing touches.

Try to shape your pumpkin slightly by squeezing its sides. Be gentle so as not to break the tissue paper.

Excellent! Your pumpkin is now ready!
